What is a GOOD period? Is YOUR period actually normal or is it just what you’re used to experiencing?

Each week in my Thyroid Rescue program I ask my community members what questions they have.

Recently I was asked to describe a good period versus a bad period. I thought this was such a great question for TWO key reasons…

1. Understanding your cycle is a gateway to understanding your health. Your cycle affects your mood, your energy, your libido, your body composition, your immune system, and your gut. And all of THOSE things affect how you show up in your life.

2. Having this information empowers you to pick up on subtle body cues - messages from your incredibly intelligent operating system to say “hey, something isn’t quite right here” and take action before it gets to an unmanageable place.

So in this week's episode, we're talking Periods 101. I’m chatting all things ``normal periods” and answering questions like…

❓What are the “phases” of our cycle
❓How do you track your cycle?
❓What level of “pain” is normal?
❓What level of flow is normal?
❓Is it normal that you feel like a 'stage 6 nutter' before you bleed?

💕 Knowing your body is easier than you think. Education + trusting in your intuition = a more empowering place to approach your health from 🙌

Our Guest:

The Truth About Wheat With Cyndi O'Meara

Cyndi O’Meara is a nutritionist, film maker, bestselling author, speaker and founder of Changing Habits, a whole food company that believes everything begins and ends with food and that health food should actually be just that - healthy.

Cyndi graduated with a degree in Nutrition from Deakin University in 1984 where her special interest was ancestral foods. At the end of her degree she was so disillusioned by the nutritional guidelines that she paved her own path, steering clear of the low-fat diets of the day.

Her groundbreaking 1998 book ‘Changing Habits Changing Lives’ became an instant bestseller and from there she has grown a successful whole food company, developed a range of healthy eating programs and a certified online nutrition course. In 2016 Cyndi released the acclaimed documentary ‘What’s With Wheat?’ which received 150,000 downloads globally in the first week.

2020 brought LAB TO TABLE, the completely revised, updated and extended version of Cyndi’s bestseller, Changing Habits Changing Lives. Cyndi educates people so they are empowered to know better, eat better and live better - because educating people about whole food is the key to a rebellion and everyone deserves to know exactly what they are eating.

You can find out more about Cyndi and Changing Habits at changinghabits.com.au

Topics Discussed:

- Cyndi's journey into Nutriton, whole food living, regenerative farming and knowing where your food comes from

- The story of wheat and why there is an increase in intolerances

- Glysphophate dangers when it comes to our health + where/how it gets into our food supply

- Knowing where your food comes from and why this is important

- How to get started with eating more of a wholefoods based diet

- So much more!

Our guest: Helen Marshall

Helen Marshall is the founder of Primal Alternative, a healthy baking and licensing business. She’s also a health coach and an advocate for living your best life!

Helen’s mission is to empower people to be accountable to their purpose with a new business model of freedom – the Primalista Licence.

The model was born from a desire to share a successful grain free food business model.  As a health coach, Helen saw first hand how people ‘fell off the wagon’ as they missed comfort food staples like bread, pizza, pastries and cookies.  So she created nourishing alternatives to the foods everyone loves and they literally sold like hot cakes.

Helen gets the struggles many face finding a vocation that aligns with their values. She packaged everything she’d learnt about creating a food business from home whilst on a healing journey, raising a family and designing a lifestyle around the things she loves.

The Primalista Licence meets the needs of many people in all areas of their lives: vocational, financial, mental, spiritual, social, physical & familial.

To date over 185 Primalistas have joined Primal Alternative in Australia, New Zealand, USA & UK.

She hosts the Primal Alternative Podcast on the Wellness Couch, Australia’s Number 1 health and wellness podcast station.

Before ditching the rat race, she was a Fitness Instructor and Personal trainer then a Business Manager for a leading recruitment company in the city.  Helen has interviewed people all of her life listening to their desires around health, work and lifestyle and has combined those skills to bring her greatest contribution yet – the Primalista Licence.

Helen lives on 100 acres of wilderness in Albany, WA with her husband Mike and their children Sam & Milly. She likes pilates, massage, coffee with her bestie, sunbathing, meditation, walks in nature and champagne in the spa.

About this episode:

There is this massive misconception out there that in order to meditate regularly (not just when life is jolly) that you're doing it "wrong" if your mind is busy or you catch yourself "thinking too much".

There is also a bit of a story people tell themselves about not having enough time. I am going to call a loving BS here and say - it's not a priority and that you absolutely have time if you are making time to scroll the gram + read my post (thank you - keep doing that).

In this episode I am joined by Janoah Van Kekem - speaker, meditation teacher and mindset facilitator for a juicy discussion on all things meditation, mindset and meaning.

This episode is for the skeptics, the start-stop meditators and for the self-labelled "bad meditators"...or perhaps it's for those of you who need a little injection of inspo to get back into your daily dose of Meditation.

I'll be busting some common myths when it comes to thyroid medication used to treat an underactive thyroid. PLUS I'll provide some insights into what else you can do to help reclaim your energy and optimise how you FEEL.

Feb 17, 2021

When it comes to optimising your health and feeling the best you can, many of us will have a few foods that we know just don't sit well with us. Yet it seems that any form of "restriction" "avoidance" or "cutting out" of certain foods gets automatically slapped with a disordered eating label.

So how can you tell if you have disordered eating or are simply intentional about your choices?

In this episode I explore this topic as it's one that is close to my heart.

Jan 26, 2021

Our guest:

Brett O'Brien. Brett has practiced as a qualified Naturopath for almost twenty years and is still excited by the possibilities this career can offer. The constant that he is always most fascinated by is the human interaction. Brett has always embraced a desire to engage with others. The human capacity to communicate, connect and support each other can be extremely fulfilling work.

After graduating Brett soon found himself adrift with possibilities within the scope of naturopathy. For many years he went from one option to the next – working in integrative health in a fledgling menopause clinic using bio-identical hormones (one of the first in the country), selling probiotics to a pharmacy industry, worked in health food stores, pharmacies, nutritional sales, medical centres and finally to a concept clinic that aims to rediscover the art of naturopathy – to support the innate self.

Brett believes that the role of the naturopath is to provide a managed re-connection with this innate capacity. He says our role is really to identify and remove the roadblocks that inhibit the body from what it already knows. Our tools of the trade then provide a means of traction and momentum.

Trying to understanding the human experience is so very complex, but Brett believes he closer to understanding it through the philosophy of Naturopathy than any other health profession. He loves the fact that the body intrinsically understands what it feels like to be perfect, and its aim to return is based in hope, confidence, possibility and self-sustainability.

Brett established Core Naturopathics in 2010 with a focus on returning to the philosophy of the past, but with a very modern application. It is what he believes naturopathy can be as a modern, scientific and results based clinic that supports people’s capacity to heal and thrive. It also represents his vision to engage with others, experience the human condition and trail blaze through this new age of wellness.

Our Guest: Dr. Tracy Chandler

BSc(HONS); MBChB; FRNZCGP; FNZSCM, PGDipSEM, Cert Dermoscopy, Cert Homeopathy, FACNEM, ACNEM, Fellowship Examiner, AIMA Member.

Dr Tracy Chandler

Tracy was born in Canada and grew up and trained in England. She is married to her soulmate Grant and they have seven children. Tracy completed a Biochemistry degree and then her primary medical training in England. This gave her a more in-depth knowledge of the human body than most Doctors are required to know. She then worked as a GP before doing further post-graduate training in Sports and Integrative (Wellness) Medicine and Nutrition. Her decision to specialise in Integrative Medicine partly evolved through her increasing awareness of the impact of nutrition and environment on her own personal and her patients health and well-being. Whilst working and raising her family she became unwell and experienced the frustration of conventional medicine not being able to provide a solution for her healing. It was then she discovered the power of Integrative (Functional) Medicine. This combines the best of conventional and complementary medicine and biochemistry to treat the root cause of poor health. With her own health experience and being a (recovering) ‘perfectionist’ Tracy takes your health very personally!
